We are currently seeking womyn interested in producing performances,
teaching various types of workshops and classes, and leading groups for
womyn of all ages. Though neither is completed at this time, both our
second floor and basement are large open rooms that are well suited for
group gatherings, drum circles, house concerts, dances, workshops, etc.
If you would like to produce a performance, teach a workshop or class, or
lead a group, please contact us to discuss your idea. Below you will find
the terms and conditions for using a space in the Spiral Dance Womyn's
Center.
SAMPLE of SPACE RESTRICTIONS
b. The second floor and basement of the SDWCB are private, sacred spaces open to women only. The SDWCB
defines “women” as those individuals who were born and raised as females.
c. The SDWCB reserves the right to refuse men entrance to any Event being offered on the second floor or in the
basement, regardless of the type of Event being offered by the applicant. Furthermore, the SDWCB reserves the right
to restrict, reject, eject, or prohibit any Event, in whole or in part, that detracts from the overall mission statement of
the SDWCB or diverges from the written Event description and/or program.
e. The SDWCB requires that no one under the age of 18 be allowed into a workshop or Event that contains sexually
explicit topics, materials, or conversation, and that no actual physical sexual demonstrations will take place at an
Event. The SDWCB reserves the right to refuse entrance and to eject anyone under the age of 18.
f. The SDWCB requires that all Event activities and materials remain in the contracted space, and that the Event will
not interfere with the normal operations, products, or patrons of The Spiral Dance Womyn’s Bookstore, located on
the main/street-level floor.
g. The SDWCB is conducive for acoustical musical instruments and performances only. Use of other musical or
media equipment (CD players, turn tables, TVs, etc., not provided by the SDWCB) must be approved by the SDWCB
prior to the event. The SDWCB retains volume control of all electronic musical or media equipment, and monitors the
overall volume of the Event so that no damage is caused to the products contained in the Bookstore or to the
building itself, and that Event volumes will not annoy or disturb the neighbors of the SDWCB.
h. Because of Fire Codes, 40 people can be in our building at one time. The Contractor understands and accepts that
the SDWCB has only 30 chairs, and can seat only 30 people at an Event on any of the floors in the SDWCB. The
remaining 10 are reserved for 4 staff members of the SDWCB and the Contractor’s employees, agents, and/or
volunteers.
i. Should the Event include medical, psychological, financial, or legal services, the applicant must provide a copy of
their Maryland license to provide these services and a certificate of liability insurance that covers their clients.
j. The SDWCB does not provide any food or beverages for Events. If you want food and/or beverages at your event,
you must supply them with the price of admission. Our philosophy is that if some women eat, then all women should
eat if they want to, even women who can't afford to purchase food at an event. As the kitchen in the SDWC is not
used primarily for food production, the kitchen may not be used to produce food for your event. We suggest finger
foods like veggie, cheese & cracker, fruit, and deli platters, but regardless of what you plan the SDWCB must
approve your final menu.
k. If you plan of selling items at your event, they must not duplicate items already for sale in the bookstore.
l. You are responsible for ending your event on time, with enough time to spare for cleaning up and removing all food,
equipment, materials, and trash. You are required to leave the space the way you found it.
m. You assume monetary responsibility for any damages to SDWCB building, furniture, or products.
n. If you want security officers for your event you must provide them.
o. If you intend to photograph or video record your event, you must obtain written permission from the SDWCB and
every person in the photograph or video recording before said photographs or video recordings are distributed to the
public or used for commercial purposes.
p. The SDWCB must approve the final copies of all event advertisements.
q. The SDWCB requires a $25.00 deposit with the application. The deposit is refundable after the Event is completed,
and the space is left as it was found. The deposit is non-refundable if the Event is cancelled after the contract is
signed. You are responsible for setting the admission fee, selling tickets or collecting admissions fees, and paying
the SDWCB 25% of your admission revenue. If your event is free, then no further Fees will be owed to the SDWCB,
however any size donation to cover utilities for your event would be graciously accepted.
